Snap has officially launched its new Specs augmented-reality glasses, a $2,195 wearable computer designed to put digital information, artificial intelligence and interactive visuals directly into the user's field of view.
Unlike many smart glasses that depend heavily on a phone, Snap's Specs are designed as a self-contained computing device. They include displays in both lenses, onboard processing, cameras, sensors, hand tracking, voice controls and a new AI platform called Specs Intelligence.
The launch represents one of Snap's biggest bets yet on life after the smartphone.
But there is an obvious obstacle.
The glasses cost almost three times as much as Meta's $799 Ray-Ban Display glasses.
