For months, one of the biggest questions hanging over Wall Street has been deceptively simple: Is the artificial-intelligence boom finally running out of fuel?

Dell and Nvidia have just delivered one of the strongest answers yet.

The latest results from the two companies at the heart of the AI infrastructure buildout suggest that demand for computing power, data-center capacity and AI-optimized hardware is not merely surviving—it is expanding at a pace that continues to surprise even optimistic analysts.

Dell shares jumped nearly 10% in premarket trading after the company issued fiscal 2027 revenue guidance that was about $25 billion above analyst expectations. The size of that forecast immediately grabbed investors' attention because $25 billion is larger than the annual revenue analysts expect from some major publicly traded retailers.

The numbers behind Dell's outlook were equally striking.

For its fiscal second quarter, Dell reported revenue of $47 billion, representing a 58% increase from the same period a year earlier. Adjusted earnings per share surged 273%. The performance was driven by intense demand for AI-optimized servers as cloud providers and enterprise customers continued expanding their data-center infrastructure.

That matters because Dell operates in one of the most visible parts of the AI spending chain.

The company does not need to convince consumers to buy an AI chatbot or persuade businesses to immediately replace their software. It simply needs customers to keep building the physical infrastructure required to run increasingly demanding AI workloads.

And right now, customers appear to be doing exactly that.

Dell's results offer a useful reality check for investors who believe the AI investment cycle has already peaked. If AI spending were collapsing, server demand should eventually show it. Instead, Dell is forecasting revenue growth powerful enough to materially alter Wall Street expectations.

Citi analyst Asiya Merchant pointed to infrastructure modernization and expanding enterprise AI adoption as major drivers, while highlighting Dell's broad product portfolio, engineering expertise, financing capabilities and supply-chain scale as competitive advantages.

Then there is Nvidia.

If Dell provides evidence from the infrastructure side, Nvidia provides the clearest view into the underlying computing engine.

The chip giant recently delivered a quarterly performance that once again exceeded Wall Street expectations. Nvidia reported adjusted earnings of $2.22 per share on revenue of $96.2 billion, compared with analyst expectations of $2.09 in earnings and $92.3 billion in revenue.

Its Data Center business generated $89 billion, ahead of the roughly $85.8 billion analysts had expected. Its other businesses, including physical AI and gaming, contributed another $7.2 billion, also beating estimates.

But the most important number may not have been the quarterly revenue at all.

It was Nvidia's long-term outlook.

The company said it expects fiscal 2028 revenue growth of roughly 70%, dramatically above the approximately 45% growth analysts had been forecasting. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang indicated that memory-chip shortages were limiting potential growth, suggesting demand could be even stronger if supply constraints were removed.

That projection cuts directly against the argument that AI infrastructure spending has already reached a point of exhaustion.

A company would not normally issue such an aggressive multiyear forecast unless it saw substantial visibility into customer demand, product cycles and capacity expansion.

Nvidia also expects fiscal third-quarter revenue between $105.8 billion and $110.1 billion. That range would put the company on track for its first quarter with more than $100 billion of revenue, according to the Yahoo Finance report.

The implications extend well beyond Nvidia and Dell.

The AI economy is built as a chain.

Cloud companies buy servers. Data centers require chips, networking equipment, cooling systems, electricity and storage. Enterprises then lease or purchase computing capacity to develop and deploy AI applications. Every stage creates demand for another part of the technology ecosystem.

As long as businesses continue spending aggressively on AI infrastructure, the idea that the boom is simply a temporary technology fad becomes harder to defend.

There is another important wrinkle: supply constraints.

Both companies' outlooks indicate that the biggest obstacle may no longer be convincing customers to spend, but producing enough hardware to satisfy them.

That distinction matters enormously.

In a normal technology slowdown, companies cut orders because demand disappears. In a supply-constrained environment, companies are effectively competing for limited capacity because demand remains strong.

That can produce a very different earnings cycle.

There are still legitimate reasons for investors to remain cautious.

AI stocks have already generated enormous returns, valuations in parts of the technology sector remain elevated, and the eventual profitability of some AI applications is still uncertain. Businesses spending billions on infrastructure will eventually want measurable returns on those investments.

The question is therefore shifting.

It may no longer be whether AI demand is real. Dell and Nvidia have supplied increasingly strong evidence that it is.

The bigger question is how long the spending cycle can continue—and which companies will capture the most economic value from it.

For now, the evidence points toward a boom that is still expanding.

Dell's explosive server demand and Nvidia's extraordinary long-term growth forecast do not prove that every AI stock will win. But they make one bearish argument much harder to sustain: that the AI infrastructure cycle has already peaked.

Wall Street may eventually find the ceiling.

Dell and Nvidia just suggested it is still much higher than many investors thought.
